Tokyo Paralympics: Pramod Bhagat, Manish Narwal Win Gold

Ace badminton player from Odisha, Pramod Bhagat and 19-yea-old shooter from Haryana, Manish Narwal clinch gold medals at Tokyo Paralympics on Saturday to take India’s gold tally to four. Besides, shooting star Sighraj Adana added a silver to make his personal medal tally two in the ongoing event, while shuttler Manoj Sarkar won bronze medal.

In the morning, Narwal bagged gold by shooting 218.2 points, a Paralympic record, while compatriot Adana settled for silver in the P4 Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event. Adana had won a bronze medal in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event on Tuesday.

In the afternoon, top seed Pramod beat Britain’s Bethell Daniel by 21-14, 21-17 straight sets in the men’s singles SL3 category in 45 minutes to claim India’s third gold in the Paralympics. In the same event, India’s Manoj Sarkar also claimed bronze medal by defeating Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara 22-20, 21-13 sets.

With the four medals on Saturday, India’s tally reached 17 (4 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze). China leads the chart with 194 medals that includes 91 gold 53 silver and 50 bronze.
