Itanagar: The Yupia special court in Papum Pare district under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) recently granted bail to a man, who is believed to be the biggest supplier of drugs in Itanagar Capital Complex region.

On July 2, the west sessions division, Yupia granted bail to Joseph Kino, a native of East Kameng district, on the grounds that the police has failed to mention specific reason as to why bail should not be granted to the accused.

The special court also granted bail considering that the accused’s wife is hospitalised for many days and there is no one to look after their two-year-old child.

However, the case diary tells a different story.

In one of the biggest seizures in the state, the capital police had recovered a huge consignment of heroin from the accused’s possession.

The capital police team led by Naharlagun SDPO Dekio Gumja, OC Khiksi Yangfo and SI SS Jha had arrested the accused from E-sector, Naharlagun on May 27 last.

Around 146.41 gms of suspected heroin along with Rs 1, 50,000 sales proceeds was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, a case under section 21 (b) NDPS Act was registered against him for which the accused was kept at judicial custody, district jail in Jully. He was granted bail after 35 days of custody.

It is worth mentioning that the illegal drugs seized from the accused is more than the amount to be included under non-bailable offense under NDPS Act.

It is feared that the bail granted to the accused might jeopardise many uncovered investigations being conducted by the police in connection with illegal drug trade.

Reportedly, around 10 peddlers were arrested and six cases were registered under NDPS Act after inputs provided by Kino.
