President Murmu Interacts with Women Achievers in Indian Aviation Sector

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu engaged with a group of women achievers from the Indian aviation sector at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, under the initiative “The President with the People”. This program is aimed at fostering stronger connections between the President and the public and recognizing their noteworthy contributions.

During her address, President Murmu commended the significant roles women are playing in various operational and technical areas of India’s civil aviation sector. Highlighting key statistics, she noted that women constitute 15 percent of Air Traffic Controllers, 11 percent of flight dispatchers, and 9 percent of aerospace engineers in India. Additionally, 18 percent of pilots who obtained commercial licenses last year were women. The President expressed her admiration for these trailblazing women who demonstrate innovative thinking and the courage to pursue non-traditional career paths.

President Murmu emphasized that the inclusive policies of the Government of India have contributed significantly to the progress of women in aviation, with more choosing the field as a career. However, she also stressed the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for women as they advance in their aviation careers.

Addressing the importance of holistic support, the President pointed out that, apart from education and training, family support plays a crucial role in enabling women to achieve their goals. She noted that many women, despite receiving higher education, struggle to fulfill their career aspirations due to a lack of family backing. President Murmu encouraged the women achievers to become mentors for other women, inspiring and guiding them to pursue their dreams and make independent career choices.
