New Delhi: In a significant step toward bolstering international environmental cooperation,Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, met with Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, today in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed key global challenges, including climate change and biodiversity conservation, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to addressing these pressing issues.
During the meeting, Singh extended India’s best wishes to Colombia for the upcoming United Nations Biodiversity Conference, which will be held in Cali, Colombia. He also highlighted India’s ongoing environmental initiatives, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unique ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. This initiative, which encourages individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, promotes environmental responsibility while reflecting deep cultural values of respect and devotion toward mothers. The Colombian Vice Minister expressed his admiration for the campaign, praising its innovative approach to fostering environmental consciousness.
Singh further introduced Rojas Rodriguez to Madhubani paintings displayed in the Ministry’s gallery. These intricate works of art, which highlight the rich connection between nature and culture, served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving both biodiversity and cultural heritage.
