In an official meeting held at the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation, the DMRC handed over the completed DPR to Chief Secretary PK Jena. The comprehensive report has been meticulously crafted after conducting various crucial assessments including traffic survey, geo-technical investigation, topo-graphic survey, and comprehensive evaluations of environmental and social impacts.
The detailed roadmap outlined in the DPR showcases the first phase of the metro rail project, encompassing key points such as Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square in Cuttack. This ambitious undertaking will cover a total length of 26 km with 20 strategically positioned stations.
Worth noting is that the foundation of this visionary project was laid on April 1, as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik granted approval for the metro rail venture, connecting BPIA in Bhubaneswar to Trisulia Square in Cuttack, marking the celebration of Utkal Diwas.
With an eye towards the future, the project’s scope is set to expand, covering areas like Khurda, Puri, and other regions within the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in subsequent phases, fostering enhanced urban connectivity and mobility.
To ensure the meticulous planning and execution of this transformative initiative, the state government engaged the expertise of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Additionally, on August 3, the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was officially established, marking a crucial milestone in the project’s development. Moreover, the state government has promptly appointed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager (Administration) for this landmark venture, highlighting the seriousness and dedication attached to its success.
