Bharat NCX 2024 Launched to Strengthen India’s Cybersecurity Framework

New Delhi: The Bharat National Cyber Security Exercise (Bharat NCX 2024), a landmark initiative to fortify India’s cybersecurity resilience, was officially inaugurated today at a ceremony organized by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU). Running from November 18 to November 29, 2024, this 12-day program is set to prepare cybersecurity professionals and leaders to address evolving threats through immersive training, strategic simulations, and collaborative engagements.

In his inaugural address, Lt. Gen. M. U. Nair (Retd), National Cyber Security Coordinator, stressed the importance of the exercise in equipping the nation’s cyber defenders with essential skills. He stated, “Bharat NCX 2024 equips our nation’s cyber defenders and leaders with the skills to mitigate complex threats. From technical exercises to strategic decision-making, this initiative ensures our preparedness to manage crises at all levels.”

Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of RRU, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the integration of education, research, and innovation in addressing cybersecurity challenges. He remarked, “This exercise not only strengthens technical skills but also prepares leadership to navigate national-level cyber crises through informed decision-making.”

The exercise features a range of activities designed to enhance cybersecurity capabilities across sectors. Participants engage in live-fire simulations of cyberattacks targeting IT and operational technology (OT) systems, gaining practical experience in cyber defense and incident response. A Strategic Decision-Making Exercise invites senior leaders to simulate responses to national-level cyber crises, enhancing their capacity to handle high-pressure situations with strategic foresight.

The event also includes the CISO’s Conclave, where Chief Information Security Officers from government, public, and private sectors share insights and participate in discussions on current trends and government initiatives in cybersecurity. A significant addition is the Bharat Cybersecurity Startup Exhibition, which showcases innovative solutions from Indian startups, underscoring their role in strengthening the nation’s cyber defenses.

Bharat NCX 2024 reflects the government’s commitment to creating a robust cyber defense ecosystem by fostering collaboration between government agencies, industry stakeholders, and academia. Through leadership engagement and capacity building, the program promotes a unified approach to addressing emerging cyber threats.

The event will culminate in a comprehensive debrief that consolidates lessons learned and establishes best practices in cybersecurity. Bharat NCX 2024 is not only a training initiative but also a testament to India’s resolve to remain prepared for the challenges of an increasingly interconnected digital world.
