Amit Shah Hands Over Appointment Letters to 60,244 New UP Police Constables

Lucknow: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today distributed appointment letters to 60,244 newly selected Civil Police Constables of the Uttar Pradesh Police. The ceremony took place in Lucknow in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Shah called the moment a significant milestone not only for the Uttar Pradesh Police, the largest police force in the country, but also for the youth of India. “Today, over 60,000 youth are becoming part of a transforming force. This is not just recruitment—it’s a mission to build a safe, secure, and developed Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Shah lauded the efforts of the Yogi Adityanath-led government, crediting it with turning around the state’s law and order situation since taking charge in 2017. He remarked that while police modernization had begun under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, its effects were seen in Uttar Pradesh only after Yogi assumed office.

“The recruitment of these 60,244 constables was done with complete transparency,” Shah asserted, pointing out that the selection was made from among 48 lakh applicants based entirely on merit—free from the influence of bribes, caste bias, or political interference. Among the recruits are over 12,000 women, selected in full adherence to the reservation policies for women championed by the Modi government.

Shah emphasized that the new recruits are joining the force during a time of transformation—Amrit Kaal—and that their responsibility goes beyond law enforcement. “By 2047, India will be the world’s leading nation, and Uttar Pradesh will have the largest role in this journey. These young constables are the custodians of that vision,” he said.

He also highlighted the impact of technological reforms in policing. “Gone are the days of caste-based recruitments. Today, we have control rooms, command centers, body-worn cameras, PCR units, and 150+ mobile forensic science labs—all of which must be carried forward by these new recruits with the spirit of security, service, and sensitivity,” he added.

Reflecting on national progress under Prime Minister Modi, Shah said India has risen from the world’s 11th-largest to 4th-largest economy and will become the third-largest by 2027. He spoke of sweeping reforms, including the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, aiming to ensure justice delivery within three years of an FIR being filed.

Recalling India’s firm response to cross-border terrorism, he cited the surgical strike after Uri, the air strike post-Pulwama, and Operation Sindoor after the Poonch attack. “Under PM Modi, India has shown that no one can spill Indian blood with impunity,” Shah said.

He praised the achievements in space exploration, especially the Chandrayaan-3 mission that reached the lunar south pole—an area no country had explored. “The Shivshakti Point on the moon is India’s message to the world,” he said, adding that this era had also seen revival of cultural heritage, with the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, Somnath Temple’s restoration, abolition of triple talaq, and Uttarakhand becoming the first state to implement a Uniform Civil Code.

Shah concluded by urging the recruits to become “messiahs” for the poor, Dalits, and tribals. “Let there be fear of law in the minds of criminals, but a sense of safety and trust in the hearts of the common people,” he said.
