Actress Rachana Banerjee to Contest Lok Sabha Elections from Hooghly on Trinamool Congress Ticket

Kolkata: Renowned actress Rachana Banerjee, celebrated for her roles in Odia, Bengali, and Hindi cinema, is set to step into the political arena by contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a candidate of the Trinamool Congress from the Hooghly constituency in West Bengal.

The 49-year-old actress, who gained fame in the 1990s in Odisha, has an impressive filmography that includes popular movies such as Santan, Lakshman Rekha, Sakala Tirtha To Charane, Bhai Hela Bhagari, Lakhe Siba Puji Paichi Pua, Subhadra, Ganga Jamuna, and Pua Mora Bhola Sankar.

Rachana Banerjee’s decision to enter politics comes as a surprise to many, considering her successful career in the entertainment industry. However, sources suggest that her association with the Trinamool Congress aligns with her longstanding support for the party and its leader, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Interestingly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently appeared on the Rachna Banerjee-hosted reality show, Didi No 1 Season 9, highlighting the actress’s close ties with the political leader.

Rachana Banerjee’s personal life has also been a subject of public interest. She was married to fellow actor Sidhant Mohapatra, with whom she starred in several films. However, the couple decided to part ways, finalizing their divorce in 2004 at a family court in Cuttack. Both Rachana and Sidhant have since remarried.

As the actress embarks on this new chapter in her life, she brings a wealth of experience from the entertainment industry, and her popularity in the region may contribute to the Trinamool Congress’s electoral prospects in Hooghly.

The Lok Sabha elections are anticipated to be closely watched, with the entry of personalities from the entertainment world into the political landscape adding an intriguing dimension to the electoral dynamics. Rachana Banerjee’s candidacy is sure to attract attention not only from her fans but also from political observers keen to witness the intersection of glamour and governance in West Bengal’s electoral arena.
