India Begins Title Defense at ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024
Bloemfontein: The highly anticipated ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 commenced on January 19 in South Africa, with defending champions India gearing up for their opening clash against Bangladesh on Saturday (Jan 20) at 1:30 pm IST. The match is scheduled to take place at the Manguang Oval Cricket Ground in Bloemfontein, South Africa, with both teams competing in Group A alongside Ireland and the United States.
India, the most successful team in the history of the Under-19 World Cup, is set to embark on their quest for another championship under the leadership of Uday Saharan. The tournament opener promises to be an exciting encounter as India aims to add another trophy to their illustrious collection.
The ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2024 features a month-long cricketing extravaganza, with 16 countries competing in 41 matches over 24 days. The tournament kicked off with a double-header clash on January 19, where the USA faced Ireland, and hosts South Africa took on the West Indies. The final is scheduled to be held on February 11.
India’s squad for the tournament includes Arshin Kulkarni, Adarsh Singh, Rudra Mayur Patel, Sachin Dhas, Priyanshu Moliya, Musheer Khan, Uday Saharan (c), Aravelly Avanish Rao, Saumy Kumar Pandey, Murugan Abhishek, Innesh Mahajan, Dhanush Gowda, Aaradhya Shukla, Raj Limbani, and Naman Tiwari.
Having secured their first trophy in 2002 under the captaincy of Mohammad Kaif, Indian teams have maintained their dominance, clinching the U-19 World Cup in 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022.
