Bhubaneswar: Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Tuesday conducted a high-level review of projects being implemented under the Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikas Yojana (MSBY) across urban areas of Odisha, underscoring the State Government’s focus on timely and quality-driven urban development.
The review meeting, held at Kharavela Bhavan, was attended by Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Usha Padhee, Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua, and senior departmental officials. All Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the State participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
During the review, it was informed that against an allocation of ₹1,200 crore for the current financial year, as many as 6,700 projects have been approved so far under MSBY, with ₹796 crore already sanctioned. The projects span a wide range of urban infrastructure and civic improvement works aimed at enhancing the quality of life of urban residents.
Expressing concern over execution timelines, Dr. Mohapatra directed all ULBs to expedite project implementation and ensure completion within the stipulated timeframes. He made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for delays and that strict adherence to timelines is essential for the success of the scheme. The Minister also stressed that no compromise would be allowed on construction quality, as MSBY is designed to fulfil the aspirations of citizens and bring visible transformation to urban areas.
The Minister noted that all projects proposed by ULBs have already received government approval along with financial support. He, therefore, instructed local bodies to move swiftly from the approval stage to on-ground execution. Emphasising uniformity and durability, he called for strict adherence to standard designs and improved construction practices under the scheme.
Principal Secretary Usha Padhee highlighted the importance of coordinated teamwork and advance planning to ensure tangible urban progress. She advised ULBs to take up projects proactively so that the entire sanctioned amount is fully utilised within the financial year, leading to timely delivery of public assets.
Reiterating its commitment to planned, time-bound and quality-focused urban development, the State Government said MSBY projects are expected to deliver measurable and lasting benefits to citizens, strengthening urban infrastructure and improving living standards across Odisha.
