Bhubaneswar: The 10th edition of Dhwani: A Special International Film Festival concluded in Bhubaneswar with resounding success, marking a decade-long journey from a state initiative to a globally recognized celebration of inclusive cinema. Organized by Aaina in collaboration with the SSEPD Department, Government of Odisha, the two-day festival was chaired by disability rights champion Jitendra Kumar Biswal and hosted at the GKCM Odissi Research Centre.
This year’s festival screened over 45 short films from across India and abroad, each weaving powerful narratives of resilience, creativity, and empowerment among persons with disabilities. Beyond screenings, the event came alive with cultural performances and thought-provoking discussions that spotlighted how storytelling can transform perceptions and promote inclusion.
The inaugural ceremony welcomed Bhubaneswar Mayor Ms. Sulochana Das as Guest of Honour, alongside eminent jury members and filmmakers Mr. Anant Mahapatra and Ms. Manju Borah, and Aaina President Ms. Lalita Missal.
The second day featured a forward-looking panel on Artificial Intelligence and Disability, graced by Chief Guest Dr. Arbinda Padhi, IAS, and Esteemed Guest Smt. Bratati Harichandan, IAS. Experts like Dr. Pragyan Paramita Mishra, Dr. Namrita Chahal, and others explored how technology can empower people with disabilities and expand the scope of accessibility.
The festival’s award ceremony recognized outstanding films across categories such as One-Minute, Five-Minute, and Thirty-Minute shorts. Among the winners were “Sakshyam” by Ananya Kanungo, “Tune of Life” by Akash Manohar Fuke, and “Katty’s Katty” by Aditya Yadav.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony was graced by Ms. Rajini Jani OAS SAG Addl Secy SSEPD Dept, Smt. Bratati Harichandan IAS SCPD, Cartoonist Mr. Kamala Kant Rath, Actor Mr. Abhishek Giri, and other distinguished guests including film personalities Mr. Patha Sarathi Ray, Mr. Snehasis Das, Mr. Koushik Mohapatra, Ms. Usasi Misra, and festival sponsors.
As Dhwani celebrated its milestone 10th year, it reaffirmed its mission — to use cinema as a bridge between empathy and action. What began as a local effort has now become a global movement for inclusion, proving that stories of courage and creativity can transcend all boundaries of ability.
