Bhubaneswar: To transform Indian agriculture through innovation and grassroots engagement, the Central Government is set to launch the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from the historic city of Puri in Odisha. The nationwide campaign will run from May 29 to June 12, with a focus on promoting agricultural initiatives and empowering farmers across the country.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the campaign virtually, while Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick are expected to attend the launch event in person.
The campaign’s formal launch will take place at the Birgobindapur Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sakhigopal, following a visit by dignitaries to the Shree Jagannath Temple and their participation in the Trirangayatra. A key highlight of the event will be the flagging off of the Krishi Ratha, a mobile awareness and outreach initiative.
The guests will also attend programs at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), a Mango Festival at the Central Horticultural Experiment Station, and an event at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). Each of these gatherings will include a symbolic tree planting drive under the campaign theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, which seeks to honor motherhood and promote environmental responsibility.
A preparatory meeting was held on Tuesday at Krushi Bhawan, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Farmer Empowerment, and Energy Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, with Principal Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee and other senior officials in attendance. Dr. Padhee confirmed that preparations for the campaign have reached their final stages and expressed confidence in the program’s success.
Thousands of students and farmers are expected to participate in the events, making the campaign a vibrant and inclusive celebration of agricultural development. The preparatory meeting was also attended by Director of Agriculture Shubham Saxena, OUAT Vice Chancellor Dr. Prabhat Kumar Roul, and representatives from CIFA, ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and other agricultural institutions.
