Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi Direct Flight from June

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to take a significant step towards strengthening its global presence with the launch of direct international flights between Bhubaneswar and Abu Dhabi from June 2025. The service will operate from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) under the Centre’s Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative.

The announcement was welcomed by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating this major boost to the state’s aviation network. Describing the initiative as a milestone in Odisha’s development, Majhi said it would enhance the state’s international engagement and economic prospects.

Sharing the update via the official handle of the Chief Minister’s Office, he stated:
“From Temple City to Global Gateway! Thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi for steering this landmark aviation push. From June 2025, #Bhubaneswar will take flight to Abu Dhabi under the #BMAAN initiative—powered by the transformative #NewDestinationPolicy. A major stride toward connecting #Odisha with the world—boosting tourism, trade, and global prospects for a #ViksitOdisha.”

IndiGo Airlines will operate the service three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The exact launch date is expected to be announced soon. The route is part of the government’s broader New Destination Policy, which aims to bring emerging Indian cities onto the global air map.

The direct flight is expected to not only facilitate smoother travel for the Odia diaspora in the Gulf region but also boost tourism and trade by drawing international visitors and business stakeholders to the state. Officials believe this move will open new doors for cultural and economic exchanges.
