Bhubaneswar: Odisha is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, scheduled to be held at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar, from January 8 to 10, 2025. A high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja at Lok Seva Bhavan last Wednesday assessed the progress across various departments to ensure the success of the prestigious event.
The groundwork for the event commenced on December 9, with meticulous arrangements for seating, vehicle parking, food, and other logistics. Departmental secretaries, forming part of various sub-committees, reported on their progress.
The Industries Department highlighted its efforts in preparing for the conference, while the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture finalized cultural programs. Notable attractions include the Raja Rani Music Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival, International Odissi Dance Festival, and a Flower Exhibition at Ekamra Kanan from January 7 to 11.
Complementing these are events like the Adivasi Mela, Chilika Bird Festival, Food Festival, Path Utsav, and Night Flee Market, which will run from January 5 to 15, showcasing Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
The event will open with the Yuva Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 8, followed by the main Pravasi Bharatiya Conference on January 9. The Pravasi Bharatiya Puraskar Samman ceremony, recognizing outstanding contributions of the Indian diaspora, will conclude the celebrations on January 10.
Significant efforts are being made to beautify Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas. The State Information and Public Relations Department is devising a media plan for widespread promotion. The Tourism Department has identified 28 places of interest in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri for enhancement, while accommodation arrangements for attendees are finalized across multiple hotels.
Beautification works are in progress at key cultural landmarks, including the State Museum, Rabindra Mandap, Bhanja Kala Mandap, Harekrushna Mahatab State Library, and Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Road connectivity between Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, and Chilika is also being upgraded.
The Department of Commerce and Transport outlined preparations at Bhubaneswar Airport, ensuring seamless arrivals for delegates. Meanwhile, the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department reported on exhibition arrangements across 40 stalls. Efforts are underway to beautify 55 highways and implement robust traffic control, safety, and security systems.
The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas promises to be a vibrant blend of cultural events and global dialogue, reflecting Odisha’s commitment to hosting a world-class event. From promoting its artistic heritage to enhancing infrastructure, the state aims to leave an indelible impression on the Indian diaspora and international visitors.
