Bhubaneswar: Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), distributed allotment letters to 116 beneficiaries of the Affordable Housing Project (AHP) during a ceremony held at the IDCOL Auditorium today.
The allotments included 47 homes under the Chandrasekharpur AHP, 36 from the Nilamadhab Awas AHP, and 28 at Subudhipur’s Barunei Enclave AHP. These projects, aimed at providing quality housing for slum dwellers, are part of the government’s broader mission to improve the living conditions of the urban poor.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mahapatra underscored the government’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities. “Owning a home in the Capital City is a dream for many. Through BDA’s affordable housing schemes, we are not just providing shelter but ensuring a dignified quality of life with access to proper infrastructure and basic amenities,” he said.
The allotment process was conducted transparently via a lottery system in the presence of an independent observer, ensuring fairness and accountability.
The Chandrasekharpur Mauja project envisions 2,600 houses spread over 20 acres. So far, 820 houses have been completed, with 737 already allotted. The remaining 1,863 houses are set to be distributed in phases.
Located near Care Hospital, this project involves the construction of 1,200 houses on an 8.18-decimal plot. Out of these, 960 houses have been built, and 543 have been allotted. The remaining 657 units will be distributed in upcoming phases.
All 342 planned houses at Barunei Enclave have been constructed, with 28 already handed over to beneficiaries.
The redevelopment of Keshari Residency slum spans 10 acres and includes 1,300 planned houses. Of these, 560 have been completed, and 454 families have received their allotments. The remaining 846 houses will be distributed in phases.
Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Vice-Chairman of the BDA, welcomed the attendees, highlighting the significance of these projects in transforming urban living. Senior officials from the BDA and Vigilance Officer of the Odisha Mining Corporation were also present.
These projects mark a significant step in the government’s effort to ensure equitable access to housing and a better quality of life for Bhubaneswar’s urban poor, reinforcing its vision of inclusive development.
