IFFI 2024 announces ‘Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film’ Category to Showcase New Talent

New Delhi: The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), set to take place in Goa from November 20-28, 2024, has announced the addition of a new award category: ‘Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film.’ This initiative aims to highlight emerging talent in the Indian film industry by featuring debut films that bring fresh narratives and innovative cinematic approaches.

The official selection for this category includes five diverse films from across India, showcasing the country’s linguistic and cultural richness:

IFFI’s new award category underscores its mission to promote new talent and foster creativity that challenges traditional storytelling. By celebrating debut films, the festival aims to cultivate a global appreciation for Indian cinema and provide emerging filmmakers with a platform to expand their reach, both nationally and internationally.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur, commented on the introduction of the new award, stating, “This initiative aligns with our vision to nurture and showcase new cinematic talent, enhancing India’s reputation on the global film stage.”

The award for Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film will be determined by a jury and announced during the Closing Ceremony on November 28, 2024. IFFI, accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) in the Competitive Feature Films category, continues to serve as a crucial platform for Indian filmmakers to gain international exposure.

The festival’s focus on debut films reflects its commitment to supporting emerging directors and expanding the horizons of Indian cinema.
