Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly faced repeated adjournments on Wednesday, the third day of the budget session, due to protests from opposition parties. The BJD staged a walkout, criticizing the state government’s inaction on the alleged assault of an Assistant Section Officer by Governor Raghubar Das’s son. Simultaneously, Congress members disrupted proceedings, citing Odisha’s neglect in the Union Budget presented on Tuesday.
Speaker Surama Padhy first adjourned the Assembly for an hour. When the House reconvened, disruptions persisted, leading to further adjournments until 4:00 pm. An all-party meeting to resolve the impasse failed.
BJD leader Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo accused the government of disinterest in running the House or addressing the Governor-related issue. Meanwhile, Congress raised concerns about the Union government’s stance on the Polavaram dam project, affecting Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
