Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Reviews India’s Preparations for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

New Delhi: To ensure India’s success at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the country’s preparations. The meeting highlighted India’s robust plans and comprehensive support system designed to maximize the athletes’ performance and well-being.

A total of 118 athletes, including 48 women, across 16 sports disciplines will represent India at the Paris Olympics. Notably, 26 of these athletes are part of the Khelo India initiative, and 72 will be making their Olympic debut.

To ensure seamless support and address any emerging issues, Dr. Mandaviya established a coordination group dedicated to providing holistic assistance to the athletes in the lead-up to and during the competition. Emphasizing the importance of collective effort, Dr. Mandaviya stated, “As our athletes enter this critical phase of preparation and competition, it’s essential that we ensure they are in the best physical and mental condition to excel,” echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s supportive message to the athletes.

Dr. Mandaviya expressed satisfaction that over 80% of the qualified athletes are already training at various locations in Europe, ensuring they will not face acclimatization issues in Paris. This strategic move is part of the Government’s commitment to providing comprehensive support through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), which includes engaging world-class coaches, organizing competitive exposures, and focusing on rehabilitation and injury management.

For the first time, a recovery centre equipped with sports science technology will be available for Indian athletes at the Games Village. Additionally, India House has been set up at the Park of Nations in Paris, joining 14 other countries, including France, in providing a dedicated space for their athletes.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the importance of making athlete-centered decisions, ensuring all efforts are aligned with the athletes’ needs and perspectives. This approach underscores the Government’s dedication to optimizing performance and well-being, demonstrating a strong commitment to the athletes’ success.
