New Delhi: To bolster the welfare of rural postal workers, Union Minister of Communications, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, introduced a groundbreaking financial upgradation scheme today. The scheme is set to significantly enhance the service conditions and eliminate stagnation among the more than 2.56 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) serving in the Department of Posts across the country.
Gramin Dak Sevaks, often regarded as the lifeline of postal services in rural areas, play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of postal and financial services to the remotest corners of India. The unveiling of the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Grant of Financial Upgradation) Scheme, 2024 marks a milestone in recognizing and enhancing the contributions of these essential workers.
The key features of the scheme include: Financial Upgradations: Under the scheme, every Gramin Dak Sevak will be entitled to three financial upgradations upon completing 12, 24, and 36 years of service, respectively. These upgradations will amount to Rs 4,320/-, Rs. 5,520/-, and Rs 7,200/- per annum, providing a significant boost to the income of these workers. Additional Remuneration: The financial upgradations are designed to complement the existing remuneration structure provided to GDSs in the form of ‘Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA).’ This additional financial support is expected to alleviate financial constraints and improve the overall livelihoods of the rural postal workers.
The implementation of this scheme is anticipated to have far-reaching benefits, not only in enhancing the financial well-being of GDSs but also in improving their overall service conditions. By addressing issues of stagnation in service, the scheme aims to motivate and incentivize postal workers to continue serving in rural areas, thereby ensuring the seamless delivery of postal and financial services to every corner of the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of frontline workers, particularly those serving in rural areas. He highlighted the crucial role played by Gramin Dak Sevaks in bridging the last-mile connectivity gap and reiterated the government’s resolve to empower and uplift their lives.
The Gramin Dak Sevaks (Grant of Financial Upgradation) Scheme, 2024 is poised to bring about a positive transformation in the lives of over 2.56 lakh rural postal workers, underscoring the government’s unwavering dedication to inclusive development and equitable opportunities for all.
