Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, Advocates Transformative Growth in Mobility Sector
New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, India’s largest mobility exhibition, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi today. The expo, a first-of-its-kind, showcases India’s capabilities across the mobility and automotive value chains, featuring exhibitions, conferences, buyer-seller meets, state sessions, road safety pavilion, and public-centric attractions such as go-karting.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the Indian automotive industry for hosting this grand event and commended the exhibitors for showcasing their products. He expressed delight and confidence in witnessing an event of such scale and grandeur in the country, emphasizing its role in bringing the entire mobility and supply chain community onto a single platform.
Reflecting on India’s mobility-related progress, the Prime Minister recalled his earlier focus on battery and electric vehicles. He expressed satisfaction with the significant progress made during his second term and indicated that the third term would witness new heights in the mobility sector.
Highlighting the government’s goal of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047,’ Prime Minister Modi underscored the pivotal role of the mobility sector in achieving this vision. He emphasized that India is on the move and moving fast, marking the beginning of a golden period for the mobility sector. As the country is set to become the third-largest economy globally during the government’s third term, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of fulfilling the aspirations of the growing middle class.
Prime Minister Modi praised the mobility sector’s growth, citing a substantial increase in the number of vehicles sold, including electric cars, passenger vehicles, and two-wheelers. He urged industry leaders to capitalize on the unprecedented atmosphere in the country’s mobility sector.
Referring to the recently presented Union Budget, the Prime Minister highlighted the substantial increase in capital expenditure, providing opportunities for the mobility sector. He discussed the transformation of rail, road, airport, and waterway transport, including significant infrastructure projects completed in record time.
Prime Minister Modi credited the government’s systematic and timely completion of projects for changing the definition of mobility in India. He outlined initiatives such as the PM National Gati Shakti Masterplan and the regulatory framework for aircraft and ship leasing in GIFT City. The Prime Minister also praised the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in accelerating trade and the role of Fast-Tag technology in saving fuel and time.
Stressing India’s global stature in the automotive market, Prime Minister Modi declared India as the world’s third-largest market for passenger vehicles and a top-three country in manufacturing commercial vehicles. He reiterated the government’s support for sectors like automotive through schemes such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of the National Electric Mobility Mission in promoting electric vehicles, backed by government investments and the FAME scheme. He highlighted the allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore in the budget for research and innovation and the expansion of tax exemptions for startups, creating new opportunities in the mobility sector.
Encouraging research in battery manufacturing and exploring alternatives like green hydrogen and ethanol, Prime Minister Modi called on the industry to utilize India’s raw materials for battery production. He suggested that the industry collaborate with ITIs to provide relevant courses and enhance skills for the workforce.
The Prime Minister recognized the challenges faced by truck drivers and announced a new scheme to build modern facilities with food, clean water, toilets, parking, and rest areas on national highways. He concluded by urging the industry to capitalize on the immense possibilities in the mobility sector in the next 25 years and make India a global leader.
Union Ministers including Shri Piyush Goyal, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Shri Narayan Rane, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, and Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey were present at the inauguration ceremony. The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, with over 800 exhibitors from 50+ countries, showcases cutting-edge technologies, sustainable solutions, and breakthroughs in mobility.
