The day began with a nationwide plantation drive, titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The Union Minister, Gujarat’s WCD Minister, and senior officials led the drive by planting fruit-bearing trees at an Anganwadi Centre in Gandhinagar, symbolizing the link between nutrition and environmental sustainability.

The main event, held at Mahatma Mandir, featured keynote remarks from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. He underscored the crucial role of nutrition in developing a healthy workforce, which is essential for the country’s progress.

Union Minister Annpurna Devi highlighted the importance of enhancing the health of children and adolescents and combating malnutrition through a lifecycle approach. She emphasized the success of Poshan 2.0, which is founded on four pillars: good governance, convergence, capacity building, and community participation.

Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development Anil Malik also addressed the gathering, stressing the need for diet diversity and incorporating locally grown foods into daily diets.

During the event, Nutri baskets were distributed to pregnant and lactating mothers, and annaprashan ceremonies were held for infants. Beneficiaries of various schemes, including Vahli Dikri Yojna, Widow Pension Scheme, and Mahila Swalamban Yojna, received their entitlements from the dignitaries.

An exhibition showcased significant initiatives such as the Poshan Tracker and Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, as well as state programs like ‘Vangi Pradarshan’ and the 181 helpline. Regional cultural performances and plays highlighted key themes like breastfeeding and complementary feeding.

The 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 will address themes including Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, Technology for Better Governance, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.
