73 Indian Airports Achieve 100% Green Energy Usage

New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other airport operators have successfully installed solar power plants at various locations to promote green and renewable energy usage. Since 2014, a total of 73 airports have transitioned to 100% green energy.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has been proactive in pursuing carbon neutrality at airports across the country. It has organized knowledge-sharing sessions to standardize Carbon Accounting and Reporting frameworks for Indian airports and raise awareness about climate change mitigation. Additionally, airport operators with scheduled operations have been instructed to map carbon emissions at their respective airports and work towards achieving carbon neutrality and net zero emissions in a phased manner.

Delhi Airport has been a carbon-neutral airport since 2016, in line with the Airport Carbon Accreditation program.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, provided this information, highlighting the ongoing efforts and commitment of the Indian aviation sector towards sustainable and environmentally friendly operations.
