70th National Film Awards: Kantara, Aattam, and Thiruchitrambalam Shine in 2022 Winners List

New Delhi: The Jury for the 70th National Film Awards announced the winners for the year 2022 today, highlighting remarkable achievements in Indian cinema. The awards, presented by eminent filmmakers and personalities from across the Indian cine-world, recognized outstanding contributions in various categories.

The Best Feature Film award was given to Aattam (The Play), directed by Anand Ekarshi, while Ayena (Mirror), directed by Siddhant Sarin, won the award for Best Non-Feature Film.

Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography, authored by Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar, was honored with the Best Book on Cinema award.

Brahmāstra-Part 1: Shiva, directed by Ayan Mukerji with VFX supervisors Jaykar Arudra, Viral Thakkar, and Neelesh Gore, received the award for Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comic).

Kantara won the Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Rishab Shetty’s outstanding performance in Kantara earned him the Best Actor in a Leading Role award, while Nithya Menen was recognized as Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam.

In the supporting categories, Pavan Raj Malhotra won Best Supporting Actor, and Neena Gupta was awarded Best Supporting Actress.

The awards were announced by Sh. Rahul Rawail, Chairperson of the Feature Films Jury, Dr. Nila Madhab Panda, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Films Jury, and Sh. Gangadhar Mudaliar, Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury, in the presence of Ms. Vrunda Desai, Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The jury presented the list of award winners to Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sh. Sanjay Jaju, and other dignitaries were also present at the occasion.

The 70th National Film Awards celebrated the rich and diverse landscape of Indian cinema, honoring the creativity, talent, and dedication of filmmakers and artists across the country.
