5T Chairman Kartik Pandian, Surveys Sports Facilities in Rourkela

Bhubaneswar: Chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha, Kartik Pandian conducted a comprehensive tour of various sports facilities in Rourkela, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering sports talent and building top-notch infrastructure in the region.

Pandian’s visit included an inspection of the soon-to-be-inaugurated Rourkela Gymnastics Academy, situated near the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. The academy, set to be inaugurated shortly by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, is poised to become a hub for nurturing gymnastic talent in the region. Interacting with the coaches, Pandian stressed the importance of aiming for international excellence and highlighted the installation of state-of-the-art gymnastics equipment in the academy.

Sundargarh district, known for its sports prowess, has been a focal point for the Odisha government’s efforts to develop world-class sports infrastructure. Rourkela, boasting the world’s largest hockey stadium, an athletic stadium, indoor swimming pool, and other indoor sports facilities, has become a hub for sports enthusiasts.

During his visit, Pandian also paid a visit to the Panposh Sports Hostel, a crucial institution consistently contributing players to Indian teams. Engaging with coaches and players, he lauded their efforts in placing Odisha prominently on the global hockey map. The tour included an examination of the hockey facilities, hostel amenities, and dining arrangements. Pandian, sharing breakfast with the players, discussed various aspects, including facilities, coaching, education, and dietary provisions in the hostel.

The visit aimed to ensure that the existing facilities meet international standards and foster an environment conducive to producing top-tier athletes.

Accompanying Kartik Pandian during the visit were Vineel Krishna, Secretary of Sports and Youth Services, the Collector of Sundargarh, and other senior officials, collectively contributing to the ongoing efforts to bolster sports infrastructure and nurture talent in the region.
