11th Engineers Conclave Focuses on Additive Manufacturing and Defence Technologies

Hyderabad: The 11th Engineers Conclave, jointly organized by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), began today at the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad. The two-day event aims to explore and deliberate on two critical areas: Additive Manufacturing for Defence Applications and Defence Manufacturing Technologies.

The conclave was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, as the Guest of Honour. The event brings together leading engineers, scientists, academicians, and industry leaders to discuss cutting-edge advancements and emerging technologies in the defence sector, with a focus on indigenisation.

Addressing the gathering, GA Srinivasa Murthy, Director of DRDL, Hyderabad, highlighted the importance of additive manufacturing technologies and their transformative potential for defence applications. U Raja Babu, Director General of Missiles and Strategic Systems, and Prof. Indranil Manna, President of INAE, also spoke at the inaugural session, emphasizing the need for collaboration between research institutions and industry to strengthen India’s defence capabilities.

The Engineers Conclave is a platform for experts to exchange ideas and strategies for advancing India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing. With the focus on additive manufacturing, the conclave will explore innovative approaches to design, material selection, and production processes that can reduce costs and enhance the efficiency of defence systems. Similarly, discussions on defence manufacturing technologies will center on improving production methods, fostering technology transfer, and boosting domestic capabilities.

As defence technology continues to evolve, events like the 11th Engineers Conclave play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s defence industry, ensuring that the nation remains at the forefront of technological innovation and strategic preparedness. The conclave will continue tomorrow, with several sessions planned to delve deeper into the topics at hand, aiming to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
