Yashasvi Jaiswal's Double Century Guides India to 396; England Resilient in Response
Vizag: In a compelling day of Test cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s splendid double century powered India to a total of 396 in the first innings against England. However, England showcased resilience in their response, reaching 155/4 before the tea break.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, resuming his innings, reached his maiden Test double century in the first session, playing a crucial role in India’s first-innings total. Despite James Anderson’s masterful spell with the second new ball, Jaiswal stood firm, showcasing an array of shots against the spinners. Anderson’s precision and seam movement eventually paid off when he induced an edge from R Ashwin.
As the scoring rate slowed, Jaiswal attempted to accelerate but succumbed to Anderson after a monumental knock of 209. India’s tailenders couldn’t prolong the innings, with Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir striking quickly to bowl India out for 396.
In response, England’s openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, initiated a positive start. Duckett capitalized on Mukesh Kumar’s errors, while Crawley raced to a run-a-ball fifty. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Duckett, breaking the opening partnership, and Axar Patel removed the dangerous Crawley. Despite positive contributions from Joe Root and Ollie Pope, Jasprit Bumrah struck twice before tea, leaving England at 155/4.
