The event, organized by the National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation and Training (NTIPRIT), aimed at creating awareness about 5G technology use cases and the 5G Use Case Lab established in IIT Roorkee with funding from DoT.
The workshop comes in the wake of Prime Minister’s announcement to set up 100 5G Labs across the country during the India Mobile Congress in October last year. Mrs. Gunjan Dave emphasized the importance of academic institutions leveraging the 5G Use Case Lab to generate new use cases, ensuring the widespread benefits of 5G technology reach every section of society and contribute to India’s development. Shri Kamal Kishore Pant, Director IIT Roorkee, expressed excitement about maximizing the lab’s potential.
The workshop featured presentations on various potential use cases of 5G across industries such as enterprises, education, agriculture, health, and e-commerce. Deliberations were held among faculty members from institutions including IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, other engineering colleges, industry representatives, researchers, students, and DoT officers.
Shri Deepak Kumar, Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, Shri Deb Kumar Chakraborty, Director General NTIPRIT, and Mrs. Shubha Bhambhani, Additional Director General UP (West) LSA DoT, also shared their insights during the inaugural session.
