
Berhampur: Berhampur Municipal Corporation becomes the first ULB in the country to give loan benefits to women safaimitras under Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers Scheme. Under the scheme financial benefits are provided to sanitation workers for their rehabilitation in alternative occupations.
Appreciating Berhampur Municipal Corporation, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs tweeted that Berhampur became the first ULB to give loan benefits to women under the scheme. The loan benefits are given in collaboration with the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation.
The scheme has transformed seven women safaimitras belonging to different Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Mission Shakti into Berhampur Swacchta Bahini Entrepreneurs, who will now own, operate and manage the sewer, septic tank cleaning machines in the city.
