Women in Aviation India Awards 2024: Empowering Dreams, Elevating the Skies

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Civil Aviation hosted the prestigious Women in Aviation India Awards 2024 at Aerocity, New Delhi, celebrating the achievements, vision, and indomitable spirit of women in the aviation industry. With the theme “Giving Wings to Dreams,” the event honored the trailblazers who have not only shattered barriers but also inspired future generations to soar to new heights in aviation and beyond.

The evening began with a solemn lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, symbolizing wisdom, enlightenment, and the essence of learning. Jury member Vivek Atray provided an insightful overview of the meticulous and transparent selection process, reinforcing the credibility of the awards. In her welcome address, Smt. Radha Bhatia, President of Women in Aviation India, set a tone of optimism and empowerment, urging women to chase their dreams and break new boundaries in aviation.

In the keynote address, Vumlunmang Vualnam, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to promoting inclusive growth and emphasized the vital role women play in shaping the future of aviation. Other dignitaries, including the Director General of DGCA, shared their perspectives on the importance of diversity and gender equality within the sector. Vipin Kumar, Chairman of AAI, also graced the occasion, underscoring the sector’s growth potential through the active participation of women.

Highlighting Odisha’s progressive role in women’s empowerment, Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department, Government of Odisha, spoke about the importance of women in building a robust economy and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. She also shed light on Odisha’s innovative initiatives aimed at empowering women through aviation, including the unique scholarships and mentorship programs designed to nurture young talent.

As part of the event’s outreach, the Ministry of Civil Aviation organized an essay competition on the theme “Empowering Dreams to Soar” at Rama Devi Women’s Junior College in Odisha on 8th November. Four exceptional participants— Puspanjali Gouda, Ankita Priyadarshinee Swain, Devaswinee Jena, and Ananya Jyoti Routray—were awarded scholarships to pursue foundational aviation courses. Their achievements were celebrated as a gesture of encouragement for their potential future in aviation. Saroj Laxmi Singh, Principal of Rama Devi Junior College, attended the event, emphasizing the importance of fostering young talent and empowering women at the grassroots level.

The ceremony concluded with awards presented to the luminaries of Indian aviation, celebrating their invaluable contributions to the sector. These awards stand as a powerful testament to the Ministry’s dedication to nurturing talent, fostering inclusivity, and driving innovation in the aviation industry, ensuring that the skies are open to all.
