VP Jagdeep Dhankhar Emphasizes Meritocracy and Rule of Law at Hindu College’s Founders Day Celebrations

New Delhi:   The Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressed the 125th Founders Day celebrations of Hindu College, University of Delhi, today, stressing the detrimental impact of corruption and patronage on young innovative minds.

Shri Dhankhar underscored that corruption and nepotism are obstacles to merit and stability, highlighting their adverse effects on the aspirations and potential of young people. He expressed that corruption breeds disillusionment among the youth as they feel cheated by favoritism.

Commending recent reforms in the governance ecosystem, the Vice-President asserted that power corridors have been cleansed of corrupt elements, leading to a transparent and accountable system. He declared that the current era is characterized by meritocracy, allowing the youth to pursue their dreams and fully exploit their potential.

In his address, Shri Dhankhar emphasized the inalienable feature of equality before the law in democratic governance. He noted recent developments, stating that no one is above the law, and accountability prevails, reaching even those who never expected legal scrutiny.

Stressing the importance of respecting the rule of law, the VP stated that respect for the law equates to nationalism, democracy, and meritocracy while serving as a deterrent to corruption.

Addressing those in positions of power, Shri Dhankhar urged them to set an example by showing respect for the law, emphasizing that it is their prime obligation.

Highlighting India’s economic rise over the last decade, the Vice-President mentioned the nation’s shift from being considered part of the “fragile five” to now being among the world’s big five global economies. He pointed out that India’s voice is now heard globally, and the nation has emerged as the voice of the global south.

The Vice-President lauded recent achievements, including the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south pole and the passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,’ ensuring one-third reservation for women in parliament and state legislatures. He emphasized that the nation is currently in an era of hope and possibilities.

Referring to the students and youth as the marathon runners of Bharat@2047, Shri Dhankhar described India as one of the few nations leading in disruptive technologies such as quantum computing and the green hydrogen mission.

Addressing the youth as engines of growth and guardians of a thriving future, the Vice-President encouraged them to fearlessly implement their ideas and capitalize on the opportunities presented by disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, 6G, and machine learning.

Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, Delhi University, Shri T C A Rangachari, Chairman, Governing Body, Hindu College, Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, faculty members, students, and other dignitaries were also present at the celebration.
