
Tokyo: In the early hours of Sunday, a volcano erupted on the secluded island of Suwanosejima in southwestern Japan, as reported by the government.
As of now, there are no confirmed reports of damage resulting from the eruption, according to NHK, the public broadcaster, citing information from a local police station in Kagoshima prefecture.
Following the eruption, the government has issued a level 3 volcanic alert, on a scale of 5, for Suwanosejima. This alert level imposes restrictions on entering areas deemed dangerous in the vicinity of the volcano. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the affected region.
