Paris: Indian wrestling sensation Vinesh Phogat has advanced to the finals of the women’s 50kg freestyle event at the Paris Olympics 2024, securing a medal for India. Phogat achieved this milestone with a decisive 5-0 victory over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman.
The match saw Vinesh Phogat taking an early lead, ending the first period 1-0 as Guzman conceded a point due to passivity. Demonstrating her dominance, Phogat maintained her lead and added four more points in the second period to seal her place in the finals.
Phogat’s journey to the finals has been nothing short of remarkable. In the round of 16, she stunned the wrestling world by defeating reigning Olympic and four-time world champion Yui Susaki of Japan.
