Bhubaneswar: Odisha cadre IAS officer Vineel Krishna Ravella has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The appointment, cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is part of a broader administrative reshuffle involving 41 senior bureaucrats at the Joint Secretary level across various central ministries.
A 2005-batch IAS officer, Krishna will serve a five-year term or until further orders, as per a notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
At present, Krishna is posted as Commissioner, Land Records and Settlement in Odisha. He has previously held key positions in the state, including Special Secretary to the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department. During his tenure in these roles, Odisha witnessed significant strides in sports development—ranging from modern infrastructure to hosting global events—which earned the state nationwide acclaim.
His return to a central role in the sports ministry is seen as a continuation of his commitment to youth and sports development. Given his prior achievements, stakeholders anticipate that his experience will contribute meaningfully to India’s expanding ambitions in the sports sector, especially as the country prepares for upcoming international competitions.
