Vigyanika: Indo-French Science Literature Festival Ignites Dialogue on Science and Literature Integration

New Delhi:  Vigyanika, the Science Literature Festival, kicked off today as an integral part of the India International Science Festival 2023. The inaugural ceremony on January 18, 2024, witnessed Prof. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director of CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), delivering the welcome address. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Dinakar M. Salunke, Former Director, ICGEB and DBT-RCB, Dr. Subhra Chakraborty, Director, National Institute for Plant Genome Research, and Shri. A Jayakumar, Vijnana Bharati, graced the event.

Prof. Aggarwal underscored the crucial role of scientific temper and CSIR-NIScPR’s commitment to promoting scientific awareness. She highlighted Vigyanika’s significance as a platform fostering discussions on science and connecting scientists with enthusiasts. Dr. Salunke emphasized the importance of increasing scientific temper and bridging the gap between the general public and scientists through inclusive efforts like Vigyanika.

Dr. Chakraborty stressed the role of Vigyanika in aligning with the goals of the New Education Policy 2020, promoting interdisciplinary education that integrates science and literature. The rich literary tradition of India, covering various topics from science to diplomacy, was highlighted by Shri. A Jayakumar, recognizing events like Vigyanika for disseminating science among the public.

The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Paramananda Barman, CSIR-NIScPR.
The event also featured an exhibition by CSIR-NIScPR showcasing its publications and SVASTIK, a CSIR initiative disseminating scientifically validated Indian traditional knowledge. The day concluded with a cultural program blending arts and science, symbolizing the confluence of diverse fields for the greater good of society.
