Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar Addresses Mizoram University Convocation, Emphasizes Equality Before Law and Youth Empowerment

Aizawl:  A powerful message on the foundation of democracy and the imperative of equality before the law was delivered by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar during his address at the 18th convocation of Mizoram University today.

In his thought-provoking speech, Vice-President Dhankhar asserted, “No democracy can survive, no democracy can thrive, no democracy can blossom unless there is equality before the law.” He emphasized that equality before the law is no longer an ideal but a ground reality. Dhankhar applauded the fact that those who once considered themselves above the law are now firmly within its grip.

Championing a call for the youth to break free from traditional paths, the Vice-President urged them to move beyond the confines of competitive examinations and the relentless pursuit of government jobs. Dhankhar inspired the youth to embrace unconventional thinking, implement their ideas fearlessly, and not be deterred by failure, as it is often a stepping stone to success.

Highlighting the current enabling ecosystem in the country, Vice-President Dhankhar expressed that the power corridors are now sanitized of power brokers, and recruitments are conducted transparently, providing equal opportunities to all.

Turning attention to the investment climate in India, Dhankhar affirmed, “Despite global headwinds and challenges, India is a bright spot of investment and a land of opportunity.” He traced the nation’s developmental journey from being part of the ‘fragile five’ to becoming the third-largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity.

Commending the Act-East policy and the substantial investments in rail, road, and digital connectivity, Vice-President Dhankhar described the policy as transformative, bringing socio-economic developmental benefits to the North-East region.

The Vice-President also applauded India’s strides in technological domains like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing. He urged the youth to capitalize on the opportunities presented by these disruptive technologies and explore avenues in startups and entrepreneurship.

Addressing the youth as crucial stakeholders in governance, Vice-President Dhankhar encouraged them to actively participate in the ongoing journey towards ‘Viksit Bharat@2047.’ He also stressed the importance of respecting parents, elders, and nurturing friendships.

The convocation ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram, Shri PU Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram, Prof. Prakash Bartunia, Former Chancellor of BBAU, Lucknow, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University, Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar of Mizoram University, faculty members, students, and other distinguished guests.
