
Bhubaneswar: Popular Sambalpuri actor Atal Bihari Panda passed away in the early hours of Saturday while undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). He was 92.
He passed away at 3.45 am after multiple organ failure.
At the age of 83, Panda debuted in films with ‘Sala Budha’ directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra and begged the best actor award at Odisha State Film awards. He again won the best actor award for his film ‘Aadim Vichar’, a sequel of Sala Budha. Aadim Vichar also won 62nd National film awards for the best feature film in Odia.
A native of Binika in Subarnapur district, Panda is known for his marvelous acting and works in Sambalpuri films. He has worked in over 100 theatre and plays. He has also worked as script writer in many plays.
