
Bhubaneswar: Legendary Odia actor Uttam Mohanty has passed away at the age of 66 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram. The veteran actor, who was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, was initially admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was placed on ventilator support in the ICU. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Delhi NCR for advanced medical care.
Mohanty, a household name in Odia cinema, reportedly fell ill during the shooting of the upcoming film “Bou Butu Bhoota”, produced by Babusan Films and directed by Jagadish Mishra. The film features him alongside his wife Aparajita Mohanty, son Babusan Mohanty, and actress Archita Sahu in a lead role. His sudden health crisis on set led to his hospitalization in Bhubaneswar before being shifted for specialized treatment.
Born and raised in Baripada, Uttam Mohanty was one of the most celebrated actors in Odia cinema. Over his illustrious career, he captivated audiences with his powerful performances, starring in numerous iconic films such as “Astaraga” (1982), “Palatak” (1985), “Ja Devi Sarbavutesu” (1988), “Jashoda”, “Subhadra”, and “Kalamanika”.
His death marks the end of an era in Odia cinema, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances. Tributes have poured in from fans, colleagues, and the Odia film fraternity, mourning the loss of a legendary artist who contributed immensely to the industry.
