
Bhubaneswar: Renowned film producer, singer, and All India Radio artist Solila Parida bid farewell to the world on March 31, 2025, at her residence in Bhubaneswar. Her journey, marked by artistic brilliance and an indomitable spirit, saw her transcend geographical boundaries and achieve global recognition in music and cinema.
Born in Odisha, Solila’s love for the arts was evident from a young age. With encouragement from legends Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar, she gained prominence as a singer, even performing at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London in the 1960s. Her melodious voice captivated audiences worldwide, establishing her as a remarkable talent in the industry.
After marrying eminent physician Dr. Hrusikesh Parida, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., Solila took a break from her professional career to focus on family. However, her passion for storytelling led her back to the limelight as a film producer. She introduced Pooja Bedi to the silver screen with Vishkanya and collaborated with celebrated actors like Kabir Bedi. Her film Desires of the Heart garnered international acclaim, winning Best Foreign Feature Film at the LA Femme International Film Festival in Hollywood, California.
Solila’s unwavering dedication to her craft earned her several prestigious honors, including the Hind Rattan Award, Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award, and the Odisha Living Legend Award. Her resilience, professionalism, and willingness to embrace challenges defined her career. From braving extreme conditions while scouting film locations to managing on-set crises with composure, she embodied a spirit of determination.
Beyond her artistic contributions, Solila was known for her charismatic personality and generosity. She served as a guest judge at the Miss India Worldwide Beauty Pageant and was admired for her unique sense of style, often seen confidently perched on her signature platform shoes. Her animated storytelling, enriched with imaginative embellishments, made her a magnetic presence among family and friends.
Solila is survived by her three children and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hrusikesh, and was the sister of the late Admiral S.H. Sarma, a decorated veteran of the 1971 war.
Her final journey will commence on Friday, April 4, 2025, as her mortal remains are taken to Puri Swargadwar from Navy House, behind the Regional Passport Office.
