
Bhubaneswar: Utkal University in Bhubaneswar is set to host the eagerly anticipated state-level Inter-University Athletic Competitions-2024 from February 15 to 19. Organized under the patronage of the Higher Education department and the State Higher Education Council, the event is expected to draw participation from approximately 1000 athletes, including nominated participants and athletes from 38 universities across the state.
Prof Sabita Acharya, Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, unveiled details of the athletic meet during a press conference on Monday. The competitions will unfold across various events at the Biju Pattanaik Sports Complex of Utkal University and the esteemed Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The diverse array of competitions encompasses the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m races, high jump and long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, hurdle race, and relay race. Each university has the opportunity to nominate two students for each event.
Prof Sabita Acharya expressed the objectives of the competition, emphasizing its role in showcasing the talents of university students, fostering team spirit, demonstrating leadership skills, and fostering a sense of camaraderie and brotherhood among participants. The meet promises to be a platform for athletes to exhibit their prowess and engage in healthy competition, promoting the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.
