
New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results of the Civil Services Examination, 2024, with 1,009 candidates recommended for appointment to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other Central Services. The final selection is based on candidates’ cumulative performance in the Preliminary Exam, Main (Written) Exam, and the Personality Test, in line with the number of vacancies and exam regulations.
At the top of the merit list is Shakti Dubey, who secured the first rank. A B.Sc. graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad, Dubey chose Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject, a popular choice among many top scorers this year.
Harshita Goyal, a B.Com graduate from MS University of Baroda, ranked second, also with Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject. The third position was bagged by Dongre Archit Parag, a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore, who opted for Philosophy.
This year’s top five includes three women and two men, while the top 25 list is nearly evenly split, featuring 11 women and 14 men. Their academic disciplines span Engineering, Humanities, Commerce, Science, Medical Science, and Architecture. These candidates come from premier institutions such as the IITs, NITs, VIT, JNU, University of Delhi, and University of Allahabad.
The Preliminary Examination was held on June 16, 2024, attracting 9,92,599 applicants, of whom 5,83,213 appeared. Following the evaluation, 14,627 candidates qualified for the Main Examination, conducted in September 2024. After further shortlisting, 2,845 candidates were called for the final Personality Test.

Optional subjects among the top performers this year include Anthropology, Commerce & Accountancy, Geography, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, and Tamil Literature, reflecting a diverse range of academic interests.
The UPSC has set up facilitation counters near its examination hall to assist candidates with queries regarding the results. The marks of all candidates, including the top rankers, will be made available on the official UPSC website within 15 days.
