Union Ministers Unveil Key Initiatives to Enhance Healthcare and Business in India

New Delhi: In a significant move towards improving healthcare services and promoting ease of doing business, Union Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, and  Anupriya Singh Patel, unveiled three major initiatives.

The initiatives launched include a virtual National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) assessment for Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAM), a dashboard to monitor compliance with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), and a spot food license and registration initiative for food vendors.

Virtual NQAS Assessment and Dashboard

The virtual NQAS assessment aims to elevate the quality of healthcare services at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The newly launched dashboard will enable national, state, and district health institutions to efficiently monitor and ensure compliance with IPHS, facilitating timely action to uphold healthcare standards.

During the event, the Union Ministers conferred the virtually assessed Ayushman Arogya Mandirs – Sub-Centres (AAM-SC) with the NQAS certificate. Additionally, the NQAS for Integrated Public Health Laboratories (IPHL) was released, aiming to enhance the quality and reliability of test results in public health labs. Revised guidelines for the Kayakalp initiative, which promotes cleanliness and hygiene in healthcare facilities, were also introduced.

Spot Food License Initiative

A groundbreaking functionality for the instant issuance of food licenses and registrations through the Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS) was launched. FoSCoS is a pan-India IT platform designed to streamline the food safety regulatory process, significantly enhancing the user experience and ease of doing business for food vendors.

Ministerial Addresses

Addressing the session, Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to provide “Healthcare for All” and promote wellness. He noted the establishment of over 1.73 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, the doubling of medical colleges since 2014, the increase of AIIMS from 7 to 23, and the substantial rise in PG and MBBS seats. “The government is committed to strengthening the healthcare system with more skilled human resources and quality infrastructure to tackle both present and future medical challenges,” he stated.

Anupriya Patel emphasized the importance of not only providing affordable healthcare but also ensuring its quality. She expressed that the virtual NQAS assessment, the dashboard, and the new spot food license initiative would significantly improve healthcare quality in public facilities and enhance business ease in India. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building robust healthcare infrastructure by 2047, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision.

Government and Stakeholder Insights

Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra emphasized the government’s focus on quality healthcare and facilitating ease of doing business. He highlighted the importance of incentivizing states to achieve NQAS certification and disincentivizing facilities that fail to meet minimum healthcare quality standards.

FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhana Rao remarked that the instant issuance of licenses through FoSCoS would greatly improve business operations in India, contributing to the Prime Minister’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

Healthcare workers from across India shared their experiences of NQAS training and the transformative journey towards certification, while food vendors discussed the positive impact of receiving FSSAI licenses and registrations.
