Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Unveils Revolutionary Digital Modules for Maritime Advancement

New Delhi:  In a groundbreaking move toward modernizing India’s maritime infrastructure, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, is set to inaugurate two cutting-edge digital modules – the Maritime Single Window (MSW) and the Mercantile Maritime Department (MMD) – on the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform. The launch ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow, marks a significant leap forward in enhancing efficiency and transparency within the maritime sector.

The Maritime Single Window (MSW) module integrated into the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform is a revolutionary digital system designed to facilitate the electronic submission, processing, and exchange of maritime-related information and documents. This advanced module enables seamless communication among government authorities, port operators, and stakeholders involved in international maritime trade. The MSW module has undergone successful testing with the Directorate General of Shipping officials, shipping agents, trade associations, and port officials from major ports across the country.

The Mercantile Maritime Department (MMD) module within the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform is another groundbreaking digital initiative. This module serves as a digital platform providing real-time vessel detention and release status information. The MMD module is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency by enabling the Mercantile Maritime Department to share vessel survey information seamlessly within the Sagar Setu platform.

These digital modules are integral components of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways’ broader digitalization initiatives aimed at catapulting the maritime sector into a more technologically advanced and streamlined future. The implementation of these modules aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting a digital-first approach and fostering a conducive environment for international maritime trade.

The launch ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to draw attention from stakeholders across the maritime industry. The introduction of the Maritime Single Window and Mercantile Maritime Department modules is anticipated to usher in a new era of efficiency, transparency, and digital collaboration within India’s maritime landscape.
