Dibrugarh: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Jagaran shop in Naharkatia, Dibrugarh, to promote the spirit of Vocal for Local by purchasing Khadi garments. He was accompanied by MP (Rajya Sabha) Rameswar Teli and MLA Taranga Gogoi.
While speaking at the event, Sonowal highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy of championing local industries, especially handlooms. “The great son of India, Mahatma Gandhi always championed the local industry, especially handlooms, and called upon people to embrace local products produced by the weavers of India,” said Sonowal.
Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vocal for Local initiative, the Union Minister stressed the importance of supporting homegrown industries to boost the Indian economy. “The clarion call of Vocal for Local by Honourable PM Narendra Modi echoes a similar message, as we must encourage our local industries by buying local and supporting our weavers and artisans. Let us join hands to take this wonderful initiative forward,” he added.
