Union Minister Rameswar Teli Inaugurates ESIC Hospitals in Tinsukia, Assam

Tinsukia: Rameswar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Petroleum & Natural Gas, inaugurated a 20-bedded ESIC Hospital and laid the foundation stone for a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital at Tinsukia, Assam. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to creating medical infrastructure for the easy access of medical services for workers across the country.

During the event, Teli assured the expedited development of other ESI projects in Assam, benefiting insured workers and their dependents. The inauguration was attended by Sanjoy Kishan, the Minister of Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare and Labour Welfare Department, Government of Assam, Suren Phukan, MLA, Digboi, Assam, and Dr. Rajendra Kumar, DG, ESIC, along with other senior officers from the Ministry of Labour & Employment and ESIC.

The ESIS Hospital in Tinsukia, Assam, established in 1982 as a 20-bedded hospital under the State Government-run ESI Scheme, was recently taken over by ESIC. Plans are underway to upgrade it to a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital with a project cost of Rs. 136 Crore. The hospital aims to serve more than 3 lakh ESI beneficiaries in its catchment areas, including Dibrugarh, Majuli, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sibasagar, and Golaghat, equipped with state-of-the-art modern medical facilities.

The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) was initially implemented in Assam on September 28, 1958, in five industrial centers. Presently, the scheme is fully operational in 31 districts of the state, providing social security to 2.9 lakh insured workers and 11 lakh beneficiaries. ESIC in Assam is administered through a network comprising 01 Regional Office, 15 Branch Offices, 02 hospitals, and 33 dispensaries.

ESIC, as a pioneer social security organization, provides comprehensive benefits such as medical care and various cash benefits in times of need, covering around 3.43 Crores of family units and more than 13 crore beneficiaries nationwide. With an extensive infrastructure, including dispensaries, hospitals, medical colleges, dental colleges, nursing colleges, para-medical colleges, branch offices, and regional & sub-regional offices, ESIC continues to ensure the well-being of the working population across 661 districts in the country.
