Union Minister Launches Multilingual Functionality on e-Shram Portal

New Delhi: In a major step toward enhancing social security for unorganised workers, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, today launched the multilingual functionality on the e-Shram portal. The upgraded portal, now available in all 22 Scheduled Languages, was unveiled during an event held in the national capital, marking a milestone in the government’s mission to provide comprehensive social protection.

The multilingual upgrade, powered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MEITY) Bhashini project, expands the portal’s accessibility. Previously available in only four languages—English, Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi—the e-Shram portal now offers its services in all major Indian languages, catering to a broader demographic of unorganised workers.

Dr. Mandaviya lauded the growing trust in the platform, revealing that the e-Shram portal records an average of over 30,000 daily registrations. “This multilingual upgrade reinforces our commitment to making e-Shram a ‘One-Stop-Solution’ for unorganised workers, ensuring they can access welfare schemes and social security initiatives seamlessly,” he said.

The Union Minister highlighted that the portal currently facilitates access to twelve Government of India schemes. To enhance outreach, mediators like Common Service Centres, bank correspondents, post offices, and MY Bharat volunteers are being engaged.

Ms. Sumita Dawra, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, elaborated on the ministry’s ongoing efforts to transform e-Shram into a comprehensive platform. She announced several initiatives in the pipeline, including:

  • The launch of an e-Shram Mobile App for better user convenience.
  • A Single Common Application Form enabling single sign-on for users.
  • Integration with payment gateways to simplify access to social protection benefits.

Efforts are also underway to integrate state government welfare schemes into the portal, alongside a mission-mode registration drive for Building and Other Construction Workers (BoCW), as well as gig and platform workers.

Dr. Mandaviya urged unorganised workers across the country to register on the e-Shram portal to avail themselves of its benefits. “This platform is a gateway to welfare and livelihood security for millions of workers. We are committed to ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience,” he stated.

The launch of the multilingual functionality is a crucial step toward strengthening social security for unorganised workers, who form a significant part of India’s workforce. By bridging linguistic barriers and introducing user-centric innovations, the e-Shram portal aims to enhance accessibility, equity, and efficiency in delivering welfare services.
