Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Unveils MoES Selfie Point, a Stunning Earth Globe Selfie Spot

New Delhi: Union Minister of Earth Sciences (MoES), Kiren Rijiju, inaugurated a visually captivating selfie point at the MoES headquarters in Prithvi Bhavan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The focal point of this attraction is a five-feet revolving globe intricately depicting Earth’s landscapes, continents, oceans, and vegetation. The initiative aims to promote awareness of Earth’s beauty and highlight the significance of MoES services for the public.

The MoES selfie point is a dynamic addition to public spaces, encouraging citizens to interact with MoES, especially through social media platforms. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s objective of establishing a stronger connection between the public and Earth system sciences. The selfie point, blending technology with outreach, seeks to ignite curiosity and appreciation for Earth’s diverse landscapes.

Apart from its striking visual appeal, the MoES selfie point provides an opportunity for young individuals, particularly students, to capture the geographical features of Earth, fostering self-expression and community engagement. Visitors are encouraged to take photos and share them on social media, creating awareness and inspiring others to appreciate the beauty and fragility of our planet.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Shri Rijiju emphasized the potential impact of the MoES selfie point. He stated, “In addition to raising awareness about MoES and its services, the MoES selfie point is an effort to promote environmental consciousness and stewardship. Inviting citizens to interact at the MoES selfie point and share experiences online could ignite a global conversation about the importance of preserving and protecting our planet for future generations.”

As part of MoES outreach efforts, the ministry actively collaborates with local governments, educational institutions, and community organizations to generate awareness about earth sciences. The MoES selfie point is designed to attract the public to capture selfies, marvel at the planet’s beauty, and contribute to advancing awareness and connection with Earth, the community, and MoES on a daily basis. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) facilitated the establishment of the MoES selfie point.

MoES, under the leadership of Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary, comprises eleven institutes focused on various aspects of earth systems sciences. These include weather, climate, oceanography, and natural hazards. The ministry conducts scientific research to enhance understanding and prediction of Earth system processes, fostering international collaboration for sustainable development and societal well-being.
