Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary Inaugurates National Skill Training Institute Extension Centre in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: In a significant move to address the immediate skill gaps in Andhra Pradesh, Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, inaugurated a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension centre today at the Andhra Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ) campus. This initiative reflects the central government’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for the youth of Andhra Pradesh by creating more avenues for skill training.

During the inauguration, Minister Chaudhary engaged directly with candidates at the center, emphasizing the importance of skill development in empowering the local workforce. He announced that the extension centre would provide training in Computer Software Applications (CSA) under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS), beginning in the 2024-25 academic session. Additionally, the centre will offer short-term courses on various computer applications through the Advanced Vocational Training scheme, implemented by the Directorate General of Training (DGT).

Housed at the AMTZ campus, the NSTI extension centre features a well-equipped computer laboratory and furnished classrooms designed to provide comprehensive training. For outstation candidates, the AMTZ has generously provided hostel accommodations at no cost, along with mess facilities for all students on campus.

Expressing gratitude to the state government for its collaboration, Shri Chaudhary reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to strengthening skill infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This initiative will help provide better opportunities for a better livelihood to the locals,” he stated.

In a poignant moment during the event, Chaudhary paid homage to the late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary, highlighting Dr. Kalam’s immense contributions to science and education. The Minister praised the visionary efforts of Dr. Kalam to empower youth through skill development and innovation, encouraging the students to emulate his legacy.

The establishment of the NSTI extension centre marks a critical step toward bolstering economic growth and enhancing workforce employability in Andhra Pradesh. Prior to the bifurcation of the state, three NSTIs operated in the undivided Andhra Pradesh—NSTI Vidyanagar, NSTI Ramanthapur, and NSTI for Women. However, all remained in Telangana after the split, creating a significant gap in the skill development infrastructure of Andhra Pradesh. The new extension centre aims to address this gap and meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the region.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director of AMTZ, pledged full support for the seamless operation of the extension centre, while Trishaljit Sethi, Director General of Training at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, also attended the inauguration.
