Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Inaugurates “Sushasan aur Abhilekh” Exhibition at National Archives

New Delhi — Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, inaugurated the exhibition titled “Sushasan aur Abhilekh” (Good Governance and Records) today at the National Archives of India, located on Janpath, New Delhi. The minister reviewed the records on display and discussed the conservation system of archival materials in a dedicated meeting.

During the inauguration, Shekhawat emphasized the significance of records in understanding the realities of governance, stating, “Records make us aware of the condition and direction of governance.” The exhibition showcases newly acquired historical documents from various ministries and departments of the Government of India, reflecting the nation’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Over the past decade, the Government of India’s cleanliness campaign has not only improved public health but has also fostered the preservation of the nation’s historical archives. A key element of this initiative involved reviewing, disposing of, and evaluating old records from various ministries and government entities. The goal was to transfer historically significant records to the National Archives of India (NAI), thereby reinforcing the foundation of good governance through well-preserved archival materials for future generations.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which ran from 2021 to 2024, approximately 74,000 files of historical importance were appraised and transferred to the National Archives from 11 ministries and departments. The exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to gain insights into the evolution of governance in India through these newly acquired documents.
