Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya Launches “RESET” Programme to Empower Retired Athletes

New Delhi: In a significant initiative to support retired athletes, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, today launched the Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training (RESET) Programme in New Delhi on the occasion of National Sports Day.

The RESET Programme aims to empower retired sportspersons who have brought laurels to the nation by equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to enhance their employability. Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya said, “The RESET Programme is a tribute to our retired athletes. It will help them transition into new career opportunities and enable them to share their expertise with future generations.”

The programme seeks to bridge the gap between generations, allowing retired athletes to mentor and inspire upcoming sports talent. “Their rich experience will nurture future champions and contribute to the growth of sports in India, fostering nation-building,” Dr. Mandaviya added.

Retired athletes aged between 20-50 years who have won international medals or participated in national or state-level competitions recognized by the National Sports Federations, Indian Olympic Association, or the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are eligible to apply for the RESET Programme.

The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) will lead the pilot phase of the programme, which will be offered in a hybrid mode. It will combine self-paced online learning with on-ground training and internships at sports organizations, events, and training camps. Placement assistance and entrepreneurial guidance will also be provided to participants upon course completion.

Applications for the RESET Programme can be submitted through the dedicated portal lnipe.edu.in/resetprogram, with registration open from today.

Dr. Mandaviya encouraged retired sportspersons to apply for the programme, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting their post-sport careers and recognizing their contributions to India’s sports ecosystem.
