Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Visits Namsai to Bolster Aspirational Districts Programme

Namsai: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, began his three-day visit to Namsai district today, aiming to assess progress and advance the goals of the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP). The visit underscores the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive development in peripheral and underserved regions.

Dr. Singh, accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, convened a high-level administrative meeting to review the district’s “Performance Indicators.” These indicators span critical sectors like health, nutrition, education, and infrastructure. The review seeks to identify both successes and challenges, paving the way for targeted interventions to uplift the region to match the performance of better-developed districts.

Upon arrival, Dr. Singh received a ceremonial welcome by Deputy Chief Minister Mein, senior officials, and local administrators. During the initial meeting, strategies were discussed to further strengthen development initiatives and ensure efficient implementation of centrally sponsored schemes.

The visit aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive encouraging Union Ministers to spend at least 48 hours in aspirational districts to actively evaluate their progress and provide guidance. This initiative aims to transform these districts into benchmarks of growth and innovation, comparable to top-performing regions.

“The Aspirational Districts Programme has demonstrated the power of focused collaboration and convergence,” Dr. Singh remarked during the meeting. “By empowering local administrations and fostering accountability, we are laying the groundwork for these districts to achieve parity with their more developed counterparts.”

Over the past five years, the ADP has delivered measurable improvements in areas such as institutional births, education, and agricultural productivity. Dr. Singh’s visit includes an in-depth evaluation of the district’s progress and the identification of best practices that can be replicated across other aspirational districts.

The outcomes of the visit will contribute to a comprehensive report to be submitted by December 15, 2024, offering recommendations to refine development strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth.

Residents of Namsai have expressed optimism about the visit. “It’s reassuring to see this level of engagement from the central government,” said a senior district official. “It shows that our challenges are being heard, and solutions are actively being sought.”

Dr. Singh’s visit reflects the government’s vision of inclusive growth, emphasizing that every region, regardless of its starting point, is vital to the nation’s development journey. The Aspirational Districts Programme, conceptualized under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, continues to inspire innovative solutions to reduce regional disparities and foster equitable development.
